James/Cipres teamed up in September 2010. He was a single skater until then and competed at the ISU World Junior Championships 2010, placing 13th. James also competed in singles (for Great Britain) at the international level before switching to Pair Skating. They are the first French Pair Skaters to win the European title since 1932 and the first French Pair to win the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final (in 2018). Her twin sister Melyssa competed in Ice Dance for Great Britain. James/Cipres switched coaches and relocated to the USA for training following the 2015/16 season. Coaches John Zimmerman and Jeremy Barrett competed in Pair Skating at the World level, representing the USA. Zimmerman is the 2002 World bronze medalist (with Kyoko Ina).
