Buttle missed the 2006/2007 Grand Prix of Figure Skating due to a stress fracture in his back but came back for the 2007 National Championships. Buttle for now deferred from chemical engineering at the University of Toronto. He also serves as the athlete representative on the Skate Canada Officials Advisory Committee. Buttle formely practised competitive dance and ice dance with his sister Meghan.
