Andreev is the son of renowed Russian choreographer and coach Marina Zueva. Andreev was coached by his step father Alexei Tchetverukhin for many years. He was born in Russia, but moved to Canada with his mother as a young boy and grew up there. He speaks fluent Russian and English. Andreev has worked as a model and competed in drifting (car racing). He retired from competitive skating due to a back injury in 2005 but came back in fall 2007. He competed at the national level in Canada until January 2009 but decided to represent Azerbaijan internationally.
